The Japan Rail Fan Club
gave its Blue Ribbon Prize for 2002 to the East Japan Railway Company's
E257 type electric train manufactured by our company. It is an express
train developed to replace the 183 and 189 type electric trains on
the "Azusa" and "Kaiji" limited express services on the Chou Line
and has facilities that are suitable for both business and sightseeing
passengers, and mechanisms to handle tunnels and slopes. In particular,
it was highly evaluated by the members of the fan club for its comfortable
ride as a result of installing the air-conditioners under the floor
