For about 90 years now since our foundation in 1920, Kinki Sharyo has been involved in manufacturing rolling stock. Equipped with excellent quality, safety, and comfort to satisfy the diverse demands of our customers, our railcars continue to be widely praised, not only in Japan but overseas as well. This high appraisal is also clear from the many international merits we have received, like the “Brunel” and the “Good Design” awards.
And yet we refuse to rest on such laurels as the acquisition of ISO9001, further proof of the reliability of our design, manufacturing technology, and quality control. Rather, we are continuing to focus our efforts towards reinforcing our integrated strength in manufacturing through the company-wide implementation of the concept of RAMS* at the very core of our business.
* RAMS: A system of 4 indices: Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety, that involves the comprehensive evaluation of excellence in each index throughout the full lifecycle of each product and offers the means to achieve each corresponding target.
Today, the world’s railways are once again garnishing attention as a better choice for the global environment, to say nothing of their role in transportation systems that are indispensable to people’s everyday lives. One noteworthy feature, for instance, is that, over an equal distance, a railcar’s level of CO2 emission – a major cause of global warming – is about 1/9 that of the automobile and 1/6 of aircraft, and their overall negative impact on the environment is truly minimal.
Kinki Sharyo has also earned ISO14001 certification and we strive towards environmental conservation not only in our end products but also at their manufacturing stage. We are proud of being able to contribute to society through the manufacturing of products that are both kind to people and gentle on the global environment.

Industrial designers and design engineers are always trying to give shape to dreams in order to further develop our products. Our goal never ends - a more comfortable product, environmentally friendlier, Safer, and a more cost effective product. We constantly try to achieve our dreams to make a better product.
During the course of production, we put the utmost care to manufacture the best quality products based on sophisticated production technology. Our rail products include the Shinkansen Super Limited Express Electric Train. Limited Express EMU, Suburban and Commuter Type Electric Train, Subway Electric Train, and Light Rail Vehicles, which we believe will be the main cast for future urban transportation. Our other products such as newspaper vending machines and bicycle parking posts enhance and add security to life. We will continue to contribute to affluent societies through our various products.

Kinki Sharyo manufactures the rail cars not only for domestic customers. We have exported more than 1,000 cars to Egypt since 1962 to support the country's public transportation system. In Asia we exported rail cars to Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore; most recent being the 252 commuter rail type EMUs to MTR Corporation (former KCRC).
In the US, our light rail vehicles (LRV) run in 5 cities since 1985. The 70% low floor LRV we developed for the US market began revenue service in 2000 for New Jersey Transit followed by Santa Clara VTA and then Phoenix VMR. Furthermore, our 70% low floor LRV for Seattle ST will soon start revenue service. Our low floor LRV vehicles are setting the US standard for its user friendly and energy efficient qualities.
There are various demands in different countries and cultures. We analyze the customer requirements in detail. Only then do we develop our high quality products using superior technology in order to satisfy the customer in a way that is most suitable to each location.
In addition, we have been cooperating to assist local assembly and maintenance activities to contribute in forming a society through our rail products worldwide.
